Should Euthanasia be legalized? Explain with specific references.

According to the Oxford Dictionary, the definition of Euthanasia is “the painless killing of a patient suffering from an incurable and painful disease or in an irreversible coma”. Euthanasia is also meant as mercy killing. It comes from the Greek, literally translating as “a good death”. According to the Independent UK, The Netherlands became the first country in the world formally to legalise euthanasia on the 29th of November 2000. And now, euthanasia is also legal in the state of Oregon in the USA. Why people who are really sick would rather choose euthanasia than die naturally? Is it because of financial problem? Or they don’t want to suffer the pain of their disease anymore? Euthanasia should be legalized because of human rights and financial problem.

Human always got the right to choose when they are going to end their own life. For example, a patient who has to suffer the pain of their disease might have a choice to choose euthanasia to end his own life. They may choose euthanasia because there is helpless for their and they are slowly dying. Some people die in great pain and have no quality of life and it can be a great financial medical burden on some families and they may make their own decision for this very reason. On the other hand, there are some of the patient choose euthanasia to end their life, is not because of they can’t suffer the pain of their disease, but they don’t want to cause their family any more suffering even though they may not want to die. According to the law in Holland and some of the states in USA, patient got the right to choose euthanasia to end their own life. Some of the old patients could not handle the pain of their disease; doctor might suggest them to choose euthanasia. But there might be some of the family members persuade the patient to choose euthanasia, they don’t feel like choosing euthanasia but the family members forced them to choose it. In this cases showed that euthanasia is good for patients who can suffer the pain but is unfair for patients who got persuaded by the family to choose euthanasia.

There are a lot of patients who cannot afford their own medical fees, they end up choose euthanasia or suicide to settle down their financial problem. Nowadays, the medical fee has increase a lot compare to the pass few years due to the new technology of medical science. Patients need the new technology of medical science to survive their life, but they still have to face to the expensive medical fees which they could not afford. That is why a lot of patients choose to end their life easily, they just don’t want to suffering their family to earn more money and spend on their hopeless disease. This situation is same as people who cannot return money to the debtor, and they choose to suicide to escape from the debtor.

In conclusion, euthanasia should be legalized; it is because it will help the patients who cannot afford the pain of their disease or the medical fees. Euthanasia can take away a life easily but it can also take away the rough time easily. Although euthanasia will cause us lose a family member or friend, but we would rather seeing them pass away peacefully without any pain than suffering the pain of their disease every day. Because it is so hurt when seeing them suffering the pain but we could not help out anything for them, we could not share the pain with them.

Should Capital Punishment be abolished? Discuss.

Everyone has an indefeasible human right to live, even for those who commitfelonies. According to the facts about the death penalty from Death Penalty Information Centre in USA, there are 15 states without death penalties while the rest of the states are still carrying out death penalties and there are 1226 defendants that had already been performed capital punishments from 1977 to 2010. But, no matter whom we are and what reasons we have, we do not have the right to take away someone’s life. According to the Human Rights Act 1998article 2 – Right To Life, everyone thathas the right to life shall be protected by law, no one shall be deprived of his life intentionallyin the execution of a sentence of a court following his conviction of a crime for which this penalty is provided by law and also, deprivation of life shall not be regarded as inflicted in contravention of this article when it results from the use of force which is no more than absolutely necessary .From this article, we can see that the law is protecting human lives. Taking the life of a human is also nowhere economically efficient as it involves discounting the resources that has been put into rearing his life. It is so valuable, even the worst criminals should not be given death as punishments. Capital Punishment should be abolished because of human rights and retribution.

Human got the right to choose when are they going to end their own life. The value of life is priceless, this is because everyone’s life is given by their parents and everymother gives birth to her children after nearly ten months of pregnancy. If a defendant has to be executed with capital punishment, it is not only to execute the defendant; it would also break his/her mother’s heart. A child is important to every mother;she were trying so hard to keep her baby alive and healthy before and after giving birth, but due to her child being a murderer the law wants to execute her child, what do you think the mother might do? She might become psychoticor face deep depression, or waste their resources by trying every method to save their child’s life. Capital punishment may not only punish the criminal, but also their relatives too. What if your own child is going to be executed by law? What would you do?

Retribution is a punishment given to a person that fully deserved it. I believe that a person who committed felony should be given retribution that death is unable to fulfill. Murderers should get retributions by other means. It is because people that performed serious crimes should suffer far greater than the punishment of death. The fear of death may not be powerful enough to discourage potential criminals to avoid them. Therefore heavily painful punishments should be given, to a certain point where the criminals would demands for death instead. This action would effective deter a greater number of the population from performing felonies. Punishment by death also may also mean that many of them would escape from most of the aftermath of their crimes. The damage that they had done has to be repaid as well through further community work.

It has come to a time where death may not be enough to for retributions. The act of punishment by severe pain would give criminals family some relief, but instead it is worse than death itself to the criminals that were punished. As it is far greater than death, it should be effective in deterring future felonies while maintaining their lives in order for them to repay their debt to society. Death penalties are simply too light and are also economically inefficient. They are also against human rights (subjective or not). Therefore capital punishment should be abolished.
